Climbing the Walls!

David has been sick for about 10 days now, and it's freezing and snowy outside, and that, my friends, is a recipe for disaster.

Some babies like to snuggle when they're sick--or so I've heard. They cuddle up on couches and watch movies with their moms, and it's all very nice and cozy. It's never good when a child is sick, of course, but I guess I still had this image of at least getting some snuggle time out of it. David, on the other hand, thinks he should be able to do whatever he usually does, but he's just too tired and cranky to do it without having a total meltdown every, say, 11 minutes. So things have been a little rough around here lately!

Because he has bronchitis, and because he's STILL wheezing after a week of antibiotics, I've really been hesitant about letting him play outside. He's gone to the park a few times with Michael, all bundled up, but I'm more inclined to keep him indoors or bundled like mad in his sleeping-bag-stroller concoction myself.

I think largely as a result of that, he has taken to playing in the windowsill. He's liked it for a while, I think I even posted some photos when he was smaller, but lately he thinks it's just the place to be. So we've been using window-crayons, sticky gel shapes for glass, and basically hanging out in the window.

And sometimes he tries to escape:

He let me take some great photos of him yesterday for a little while! He just sat there posing and making funny faces :

Then he went back to gazing wistfully outside:

I wanted to share one more picture, but this one's from last week when we had Anja, Thomas and Emmanuel over for coffee and cake. David had gone with Michael to get the cake, and came home more than a little bit ready to eat the cake. He ran to his highchair and said "high-chair, Aahhhhh" (which means, "I want to sit in my high chair!"--the "ahh" is supposed to be a sigh of contentment. It's hilarious. If he wants me to sit somewhere, he pats the chair and says "Mama, Aahhhhh!")

We told him we had to wait for Emmanuel, and he seemed to understand this. So when they arrived, after greeting them all, David tried again with the "Cake! Cake! Highchair! Bib!"

When we didn't immediately respond, he climbed into a chair, sat himself down, and waited--chin on the table--staring down the cake in its wrapper.

He loves his cake. I can't imagine where he got that from, but I'm saying Michael :)

Oh yeah, We have a Blog!

We're back in Jena after a nice, long trip back home! We had a great time with family, though we would have had a nicer time had we not had to worry about job-market stuff. There's something terribly inhumane about situating the annual make-it-or-break-it job interview conference precisely between Christmas and New Years. We were fortunate enough to have interviews, but not enough to guarantee a job for next year. So now we wait and see!

David is hilarious these days. He is talking so much, and cracking us up regularly. In fact, he started waking up earlier than usual this week, so I bring brought him back into bed with us to steal an extra 15 minutes or so--all the snuggling that David has time for. When he's ready for us to get up, he leans over to me and gives me butterfly kisses. It is the sweetest thing ever. Then he gets out of bed, walks around to where Michael is, and clocks him--hard!--in the head to wake him up. We're working on this, but honestly it's pretty funny!

He also thinks he's quite the dancer. Check out this video of David singing and dancing:

We had a wonderful afternoon with friends today. After the little ones napped, Thomas, Anja and Emmanuel came over for coffee and cake. Then we basically played for a few hours, and chatted.

By way of reminder, here is a photo from David and Emmanuel's first playdate:

And for a video of them today (well, now it's yesterday), check the next post! It turns out it took all night--honest to goodness, all night--for the first video to process. So tune in later for the second one, or check facebook where I posted it last night!
